KIMBERLY MURPHY

English II

Mrs. Murphy, Room 303

Course Objective

My goal is to help you pass your final English STAAR/EOC test and, even more importantly, to help you better understand and to even appreciate language so that you can be successful in school, in the workplace and in life.   I want to challenge you each day to think independently, to problem-solve, to take risks and to understand that the only time we fail is when we stop trying.

Late Work:

Being punctual is one of those life-skills that will benefit you throughout life, so I’m going to help prepare you for those awful late fees and penalties you will encounter later in life when you are late!  ☺

This is for assignments, quizzes, tests or essays not taken or written by the due date.

Same day = 10 point deduction  (you will not be released from class to go get your assignment!)

Next day/1 day late = 20 point deduction

after 1 day = no higher than a 50  ☹

Retakes:

Students are allowed to rewrite an essay for recovery of points ONLY DURING TUTORIALS

Assignments:

ALL assignments, quizzes, tests and essay due dates will be written on the side board and kept there each week.  Each student is responsible for keeping track of due dates.   I will send out weekly reminders via E-notes.

Absences:

To help prepare you for college and the workplace, I encourage you the student to either let me know ahead of time when you are going to be out or email me if it’s an unplanned absence so that I can give you any important information from that day.  If I have given any handouts that day, you can find it on the front table in the classroom organizer. It is your responsibility to get your make-up work. If there is an assignment, quiz or test due while you were out, you will be expected to turn in the assignment or take the quiz/test on the day you return to class!

Cheating/Plagiarism:

I’m ancient, so I’ve seen just about every form of cheating that exists, so don’t waste your time trying!  Students will receive a zero for cheating!
